Pimping life, one craft at the time.
This craftie section is brand new. I’ve spammed my mates with a gazillion of pictures of all those do-it-yourself sideprojects and cooking endeavors, but never blogged about them.
That’s about to change, and I’ll be adding some patterns, recipes, guides and design freebies here and there too. Excited yet? I know I am.

THE MOST RECENT RANTS

PASSIONS & INFATUATIONS

I’m a designer/illustrator by profession so I’m going to exclude all painting (aquarel, oil, ecoline, etc…) and
drawing (pencil, markers, charcoal, etc) techniques from this list, as I’m supposed to be proficient at my job 🙂

THE ARTS & CRAFTS I AM CURRENTLY VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT

So what do you do with a pair and a spare? You up-cycle!  Every carton box, jar lid, piece of wood at Casa Vixxie gets a second life. Embellishing it afterwards with chalk or marker hand lettering is kind of a direct consequence. So many new surfaces that need re-decorating! I recently started working on my own brand of copper jewelry called Flor de Cobre. Needless to say I’m balls deep into wooden beads and copper wire. And cooking? Every since my healthy reboot, I love experimenting with the different tastes of world kitchen as well as recreating my mum’s and my nanna’s old flemish classics.

THE ARTS & CRAFTS I WAS VERY MUCH INTO AS A CHILD

I’ve always been a creative child. From making collages with mother dear, to crafting complete parallel universes in Lego, I never had much feel with the sportsy outdoors. I had a serious addiction to plasticine (which I primarily used to craft fake marzipan food) and spent hours assembling ironing beads. Every towel we owned was decorated with an ‘embroidery’ by yours truly and one of my most loved childhood memories were made scratching goldfoil tableaus at the seaside during holidays.

THE ARTS & CRAFTS I HAVE BEEN INTO IN THE PAST, BUT NOT SO MUCH ANY MORE

Such as all the good things in life, infatuations come and go. There’s been a couple of time consuming crafts I have been very much into in the past. Candlemaking, for example. My whole family has been provided a life supply of homemade scented candles. I would probably still be crafting them if it weren’t for my ex-bf who got evicted when I was out of town for studies and got all my material confiscated. Still fuzzed about it, not gonna lie. Scrapbooking! Always been fascinated by it, but no longer actively doing it due to time constraints and patience running thin. However, I am drawn to paper like a honeybee to a flower. Origami was the first form of paper art I taught myself. As a teenager, I weaved a lot of bracelets in duodji technique and then got into quilling. No, not the kind you make grandmother’s old blankets with. Quilling, making flowers and patterns come to life by rolling small strips of papers into molds. After visting Ravenna, I also got obsessed with ceramic mosaic, but that fainted out fast. I discovered the technique of shadow painting and combined it with calligraphy, which kept my creative ADD satisfied for a very long time. As for cupcake and pie decorating… I had to cut down on it because there is as much cake as one can eat. My friends, neighbours and colleagues started to complain about weight gain, so I quit the intense baking sessions!

I’d love to try: Glass Blowing, Bonkei (the Japanese arts of tray landscaping), Tatebanko (the art of paper diorama), Handcrafted Paper Making, Cittacotte (cityscaping in teracotta), Wood Carving, Porcelain enamels, Stained Glass in Lead, Ice and Sand sculpture
